What is Suffield on the Green (SOTG)?
2021 Article from the Observer:
Suffield
on the Green is seen as the unofficial end of the summer event. It provides
Suffield residents a fun time to get to know their community a bit better. For
those of you new to town, it’s a great way to meet new people and learn more
about Suffield while having a fun time.
The
event always takes place on the Town Greens in the center of town the weekend
after Labor Day. This year it is Saturday, September 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
and Sunday, September 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hosted by the Friends of
Suffield, the annual event features booths by local businesses and organizations
like Scouts, Religious Groups, Emergency Services and more.
There
are three greens. The Friends of Suffield refer to them as the North Green, the
Center Green, and the South Green. This action-packed event will include a Kid
Zone on the North Green. As indicated by the name, the focus of this green is
on younger kid-oriented events. Free Interactive Circus fun for all ages Saturday 11-4 & Sunday 11-1. Tickets can be purchased at the
Friends of Suffield booth on the North Green for time in an Inflatable Bounce
House or Obstacle Course. This is also where the much beloved Canine Contest
happens on Sunday (registration at 12:00 and contest at 1:00). Remember this is
also the location for the rope bridge and more so visit www.FriendsOfSuffield.org/SOTGEntertainment.html for the
latest information.
The
Center Green is where the majority of community booths are including town
services, churches, local businesses, and high school classes. Come out and
support them all. The center green also hosts the 50th Craft Fair
showcasing original, hand-made pieces. You can find the professional Balloon Twister at the Gazebo Saturday morning after he's done at the South Green as well as Sunday. He is free at the South Green 10-11am but tickets from the FOS booth will be required after that.
Head
down to the South Green for delicious food prepared by volunteer groups, as
well as entertainment and live music of many genres. Many community groups will
provide amazing demonstrations to entertain. It
is a great place where friends and acquaintances re-unite and catch up amidst
children’s laughter, dogs barking, and live music playing. Come watch the Girls SHS Volleyball
team take on adults, teachers and other challengers Saturday starting at 10am
on the South Green by the Suffield on the Green Stage Sept 11th!
Don't forget, there's a Free professional Balloon Twister on the South Green by the stage
from 10am to 11am as well.
Last
but not least, the Suffield Mini Bus provides a free shuttle bus to get you to
the green should you not be able to park close. The bus leaves approximately every
20 minutes from the Suffield Middle School parking lot on Mountain Road (look
for the blue balloons). This service is a short, safe ride to and from Suffield
on the Green. There will be two drop off points: the first, by the Library’s book sale at
Sacred Heart Church, and the second, by Second Baptist Church. Enjoy some Free Coffee, snacks and see the "Common Room" the Second Baptist Church has renovated and made
available for use.
Net
proceeds raised are given back to the community. You
can get maps of all exhibitor and vendor locations at the Friends of Suffield
booth. Or visit our website
ahead of time and download and print maps of all the exhibitors.
